What is a Polysomnogram?

|
A Polysomnogram is a sophisticated multi-modal
electrophysiologic test used in the diagnosis of sleep
disorders.
During the test, several different areas of physiologic
function are evaluated simultaneously including; the
EEG (brain function for sleep staging), EKG (heart
function), oxygen saturation, EMG (muscle tension),
chest expansion, abdominal expansion, and eye
movements.
A sleep physician is trained to interpret all of these
types of data and arrive at a diagnosis for a sleep
disorder.
