On this page you can find some of the most frequently asked questions from our patients and referring physicians. Please review the list below. If you have new question that you think needs to be included on this page, please contact us directly.
What is a polysomnogram?
A Polysomnogram is a sophisticated multi-modal electrophysiologic test used in the diagnosis of sleep disorders.
During the test, several different areas of physiologic function are evaluated simultaneously including; the EEG (brain function for sleep staging), EKG (heart
function), oxygen saturation, EMG (muscle tension), chest expansion, abdominal expansion, and eye movements.
A sleep physician is trained to interpret all of these types of data and arrive at a diagnosis.
What is a Neuro-Ophthalmologist?
A neuro-ophthalmologist is a physician with training in the specialties of both Neurology and Ophthalmology. There are several routes to this specialty. Some physicians trained in neurology or ophthalmology undergo a one-year fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology following completion of their residency. This pathway normally takes approximately 5 years, and is best suited to physicians interested in teaching and research.
Other physicians complete residency training in both Neurology and Ophthalmology. This pathway takes approximately 7 years, and is best suited for physicians interested in private practice, although some of these physicians go on to teach and do research.
A neuro-ophthalmologist treats many unusual illnesses, including the following:
NeuroVision is a private practice providing care to patients with neurologic, ophthalmologic, neuro-ophthalmologic, neurodiagnostic and sleep illnesses. We were established in 2006 in a small office on Galena Avenue in Denver, and have grown over the past few years to a thriving practice in Centennial, Colorado.
We provide a wide breadth of services because of the hard work of a dedicated staff, ranging from Courtney, our sleep administrator; to Terri, our office administrator.
A Good Night's Sleep Center is designed to offer something different than the array of other sleep labs in the Denver region. We began with a simple idea--a sleep center should first meet the needs of the patient, and second the needs of the referring physician.
To meet the needs of our patients, we structured each sleep room to be as comfortable and non-clinical as possible. We added comfortable beds, large screen televisions, and high-definition cable. We then decided to provide catered breakfasts to our patients each morning. These factors have combined to produce a very high satisfaction level in the patients who have their sleep studies completed at our facility.
To meet the needs of the referring physicians, we structured our feedback system in a different way--we attempt to routinely provide ~48 hour turnaround in our reports (industry average is approximately 2 weeks), and are available to answer questions regarding patient referrals. We increase patient satisfaction, which results is happier patients when they return for the follow-up appointment with the referring physician. We also can customize the amount of service provided to each referring physician--most prefer us to manage the sleep disorder once identified, but some request to manage the patients themselves instead.
The final and most objective sign of success in a sleep center is compliance with recommended therapy. Here at AGNSC we have >75% compliance with recommended therapy, which is much better than the industry average. We feel it is the direct result of a well designed program and an excellent staff.
